New Moon, Lunar New Year

New Moon, New Lunar New Year, beginning of the Year of the Snake.

Setting intentions is a powerful way to achieve change in your life and bring your dreams to life and working with the New Moon is a fantastic way to give your intentions a bit of an extra boost and flex your manifestation muscles.

Add in the fact that today sees the arrival of the Lunar New Year, could there be a better time to create space in your life to focus on what magic you would like to create in your world?

There are loads of tips and tricks on the internet how to best help you do this, but here is my take on it and what has worked best for me.

This year is the Year of the Snake and the snake is all about wisdom, transformation, shedding the old, good fortune and adaptability, so make some time as you go about your day to contemplate what it is you would like to invite into your world and the gifts the snake has to offer.

Tonight or over the next couple of days give yourself 30 minutes to an hour to enjoy the following ritual so you can consciously create the life you desire.  Don’t forget to allow the Universe room to work even bigger and better things into your world by stating at the end of your intentions “This or something better”, because she can see things that may benefit you that you have not yet dreamed of.

What you will need:

A space you will be uninterrupted for an hour.

White candle.

Obsidian crystal, palm stone, tumble or sphere would be perfect but not essential (clear quartz can be used if preferred, for clarity and guidance).

Smudge stick / incense / singing bowl / tingsha cymbals.

Journal + pen.

Prepare your space by cleansing it physically and energetically, removing any clutter and then smudging with incense or cleansing with sound, my preferred methods are either using a sage smudge stick or Tibetan tingsha cymbals (be sure to have a window open to allow negative energy to leave). Don’t forget to give yourself a quick smudge or sound bath.

Light a candle (white is a wonderful multi-purpose colour to use) with the intention of inviting in clarity, guidance and protection while doing this work.

Getting yourself comfortable in an upright position, on a chair or meditation cushion, hold your obsidian in your left hand.  Gently close down your eyes and settle into the comfortable rhythm of your breath….

Ask your obsidian to show you that which needs to be seen.  Obsidian is a volcanic glass and brings to the surface that which needs to be seen, while protecting and grounding your energy.  Our minds are very clever and very self-protective, the obsidian helps to bring forth that which your mind may be hiding from in order to allow space for healing or releasing.  As uncomfortable as this may sound, for healing to occur we need to face our shadows, remove the illusion so to speak, so they can then be released or embraced, whichever feels right for you at the time.

Stay in this meditation for a minimum of 15 minutes if you can, allowing yourself time to settle and time to hear what messages your obsidian or Spirit may have for you.

Once you are done, thank both your obsidian and Spirit for their assistance and journal all your experiences during meditation, whether it be a little or a lot.

When you are done, write a list of five people you are grateful for, five things you are grateful for and five things you wish to be grateful for in the future, as though they are already existing in your life.

Really lean into your gratitude here, picture each person, each thing, each event you are grateful for individually, allowing gratitude to fill your heart to overflowing and then direct this loving energy toward them, the people, the places, the things.

Once you have completed this write 10 things you would like to occur or to manifest in the next 4 weeks, this may include your future gratitude items as well.

To close this ritual give thanks to the Universe for her loving support, give thanks to your obsidian, give thanks to the space you have enjoyed while completing this ritual, and gently blow out your candle and smudge your space once more.

You have the choice of either leaving your intentions in your journal so you can reflect back upon them at the next new moon, or alternatively, safely burning them, releasing them to the ether and returning the cooled ashes to the earth.

Wishing you a Happy Lunar New Year, beautiful soul.
