Purpose Lives in the Smallest Moments

One of the questions I hear most often in the Little Red Tent is,

"What is my purpose?"

It's a question many of us quietly carry.

We imagine purpose as something extraordinary. A calling. A career. A grand mission that somehow explains why we are here.

It is a question I used to ask myself a lot. But then I began to wonder if I had been asking the wrong question. And everything changed, for the better.

What if purpose isn't something we go searching for?

What if purpose is something we bring to each moment we are given?

I often speak with clients about legacy.

When we hear the word legacy, it's easy to think of wealth, achievements or something remarkable we leave behind.

But I believe legacy is created long before the end of our lives.

Legacy is built in ordinary moments.

It is how we make people feel.

It is whether someone leaves a conversation feeling heard instead of dismissed.

Whether a stranger receives a warm smile instead of indifference.

Whether a loved one feels accepted rather than judged.

Whether someone walks away remembering, perhaps without even knowing why, that they mattered.

That, to me, is legacy.

It costs nothing.

Yet it may become one of the greatest gifts we ever leave the world.

This asks something different of us.

It asks us to become more aware.

More present.

More intentional.

When we rush through our days, much of life passes unnoticed.

But when we slow down, we begin to see the countless opportunities that have always been there.

A kind word.

A patient response.

An encouraging message.

A moment of genuine listening.

A hand offered when someone is struggling.

None of these moments make the evening news.

Yet every one of them has the capacity to change someone's day for the better.

Perhaps even someone's life.

Purpose does not always arrive with fireworks.

Sometimes it arrives disguised as an ordinary Tuesday afternoon.

As human beings, we long for purpose because purpose reminds us that our lives matter.

It gives meaning to our days.

It gently lifts us beyond simply existing and invites us to participate in life with intention.

The beautiful thing is that purpose doesn't have to wait until we've discovered our perfect career or life's calling.

We can begin living purposefully today.

In this conversation.

In this meal we prepare.

In the way we speak to ourselves.

In the way we greet another person.

Because every moment becomes an opportunity to leave the world—even in the smallest way—a little gentler than we found it.

Perhaps that is where purpose has been waiting all along.

Not somewhere far away.

But quietly hidden inside this very moment, asking only for our awareness.

Today, before you ask yourself,

"What is my purpose?"

Perhaps ask instead,

"How can I leave the people I meet feeling that their life has meaning?"

If each of us carried that question into our day, I wonder how different our world might become.

Maybe purpose isn't about changing the whole world.

Maybe it's about changing the small corner of it that we're standing in.

Perhaps your purpose today isn't to discover who you're meant to become.

Perhaps your purpose is simply to leave every person, every place and even yourself a little better than you found them.

Purpose, after all, is rarely found in the extraordinary.

More often, it is revealed in the awareness and reverence we bring to the ordinary.

A warm, cream-coloured infographic in Little Red Tent's signature earthy red palette. Three illustrated tarot cards are arranged across the centre, each representing a reflection on purpose: recognising where purpose already exists, embodying a meaningful quality, and taking one small intentional step. Delicate botanical line drawings, a softly glowing lantern and a tarot deck create a peaceful, grounded aesthetic. A journal reflection at the bottom encourages readers to explore awareness, legacy and the quiet ways purpose can be lived through everyday moments.

A Simple Tarot Reflection

Before you shuffle your cards, take a slow breath and ask:

"How can I bring more purpose to today?"

Card One — Where is purpose already present in my life?

Where are you already making a meaningful difference without recognising it?

Card Two — What quality am I being invited to embody?

What way of being—kindness, courage, patience, compassion or trust—will help you bring greater purpose to today?

Card Three — What small step can I take today?

Purpose grows through small, intentional actions. What simple step will help you live your purpose today?

Journal Reflection

  • Where am I already living with purpose without recognising it?

  • How do I want people to feel after sharing time or space with me?

  • What small act of kindness or presence could become part of my legacy today?

  • Where am I being invited to bring more awareness into my everyday life?

A Gentle Invitation

Life is an invitation into relationship.

At Little Red Tent, we believe every experience offers an opportunity to become more aware, to choose consciously, and to create a life of greater meaning, connection and purpose.

If you're seeking deeper clarity, guidance or support on your journey, I'd be honoured to walk alongside you.

With warmth,
